The Healing Hearts Appeal was launched in 2003 to raise money for a state-of-the-art heart monitoring system. By 2005 more than £700,000 was raised for a system that was the first to be introduced in Europe and second in the World.
The new heart monitors are digital, give twelve different readings of activity in the heart and can also provide a 72 hour history. Some of the monitors are wireless to give patients increased freedom of movement.
The monitors are located in various areas around the hospital including Accident and Emergency. The information provided can be accessed in the Heart and Chest Department where a Cardiologist can make a quick and accurate diagnosis – reducing the damage to patient’s hearts and in some cases saving lives.
